iPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island Rumor Debunked

A new rumor suggested the iPhone 18 Pro would shrink and move its Dynamic Island to the left, but leaker Instant Digital is calling it misinformation. The Weibo-based source claims the speculation is a translation error, asserting that no front camera will relocate to the device's top-left corner.

The confusion appears to stem from a misunderstanding about Face ID components. Instant Digital clarified that Chinese and Korean reports actually referenced moving the infrared sensor under the display, not the front-facing camera. This distinction is crucial, as Face ID requires an infrared projector and camera to function, which have historically necessitated a visible cutout.

Apple has been steadily reducing the display intrusion since the iPhone X's notch, first shrinking it and then introducing the Dynamic Island to make the cutout interactive. Persistent industry rumors point to a fully under-display camera and Face ID system by 2027, potentially for a 20th-anniversary iPhone model, but the 18 Pro is not expected to achieve that milestone.
