Discover pulls two Apple Pay features in 2026

Discover will cease support for two Apple Pay add‑ons on June 4, 2026. The Connected Accounts view and Pay with Rewards options disappear for U.S. cardholders, meaning balances and reward points can no longer be accessed through the Apple Wallet app. Apple Insider reports the change arrives via email notice to affected users.

The Connected Accounts feature debuted in iOS 17.1, letting select UK and U.S. banks surface credit‑card balances inside Wallet. While major British banks continue to offer it, the United States saw the capability limited to Discover cards. With the upcoming cut, UK users retain the function, and other issuers such as Synchrony still support Pay with Rewards.

Cardholders won’t lose the core Apple Pay payment flow; transactions will process as before. Those who rely on rewards at checkout must now redeem points through Discover’s own app, which still shows balances, transaction history, and account details. The move trims a low‑adoption feature while preserving the primary payment experience for millions of iPhone users.

The decision reflects Discover’s focus on its native ecosystem, as similar integrations persist with partners like Fiserve. For developers, the removal simplifies the Wallet API surface, while consumers receive a clearer, if slimmer, set of Apple Pay features. It also underscores Apple’s strategy of pruning underused tools to streamline the user experience across its services.
