Discover Ends Apple Pay Rewards & Connected Account Features

Discover has announced the discontinuation of two Apple Pay features for its cardholders: Connected Account integration and Pay with Rewards, effective June 4. The changes will automatically remove these options from users' Wallet apps, though Discover emphasizes that core Apple Pay functionality—such as in-store and online payments—will remain unaffected. Cardholders can still manage accounts, view rewards, and access transactions via Discover's website, mobile app, or monthly statements. Connected Account, which allowed users to view card details and rewards directly in Apple Wallet, launched in the U.S. in 2021 and previously rolled out in the U.K. with banks like Barclays and Monzo.

The move marks a shift away from Apple's ecosystem for Discover's digital services, despite the company's continued support for standard Apple Pay transactions. While some users may find the loss of in-Wallet rewards redemption inconvenient, Discover argues the changes streamline operations without altering broader payment capabilities. Apple Pay integration remains a priority for Discover, but the removal of these features highlights evolving partnerships between card issuers and mobile payment platforms.
