Tap to Pay on iPhone Expands to Malaysia

Apple's Tap to Pay feature, which transforms an iPhone into a contactless payment terminal, has officially landed in Malaysia. This service bypasses the need for external card readers, offering small businesses a streamlined, lower-cost method for accepting payments via compatible iPhones. The rollout continues Apple’s global expansion effort for the software solution.

Five local payment platforms—ADAPTIS, Fiuu, HitPay, Stripe, and Zoho—are immediately supporting the feature for their merchants across sectors like retail and food and beverage. This makes accepting payments simpler for many Malaysian vendors. The capability supports major card networks, including Visa and Mastercard, through the integrated platforms.

Interestingly, while the feature is live for third-party businesses, Apple’s own retail store in the country is not yet equipped to use it. The company noted that Tap to Pay on iPhone will soon be available for checkout at the Apple The Exchange TRX location, suggesting a staggered internal deployment.

This technology streamlines checkout convenience, though security protocols mean users might occasionally need to insert a physical card for PIN entry, a scenario not possible with the software-only terminal. Malaysia joins over 50 countries now utilizing Tap to Pay on iPhone.
