Discover Exits Apple Wallet Features: Balance Tracking, Rewards Integration Ending June 2026

Discover is removing two key Apple Wallet integrations for its cardholders, effective June 4, 2026. Users will lose access to real-time balance tracking and transaction history in the Apple Wallet app, along with the ability to pay directly with rewards via Apple Pay. The changes will affect how cardholders interact with their accounts through iPhones, though physical and online purchases will remain unchanged.

Connected Cards, a feature allowing credit cards to display balances and transactions in Wallet, has been supported by Discover for years but faces discontinuation. This mirrors a broader trend where U.S. banks lag behind UK institutions in adopting such integrations. The Pay with Rewards feature, which let users apply cashback bonuses at digital checkouts, will also cease. Cardholders can still redeem rewards through traditional methods on Discover’s platforms.

The termination will cancel enrollments in these features for affected users, but account terms and eligibility remain intact. Apple’s Connected Cards system, which enables third-party cards to integrate with Wallet, may be phasing out support, though Apple has not confirmed this. The shift highlights tensions between financial institutions and tech platforms over data access and user convenience.

While Discover emphasizes continued functionality for core transactions, the loss of in-app insights could frustrate users reliant on mobile banking. Industry analysts suggest this may pressure other banks to reassess their Apple Pay partnerships. The move underscores ongoing debates about digital wallet ecosystems and their impact on consumer financial management.
