Apple is reportedly developing a new budget MacBook that maintains aluminum construction while offering vibrant color options. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the device will feature playful hues including light yellow, light green, blue, pink, silver, and dark gray, echoing the design language of the 24-inch iMac. The laptop aims to appeal to students and enterprise users while keeping costs down.

Despite the lower price point, Apple isn't compromising on build quality by switching to plastic. Instead, the company plans to use a faster, more cost-effective manufacturing process for the aluminum casing that could eventually be applied to other MacBook models. This approach allows Apple to maintain its premium aesthetic while achieving the necessary price reduction for this entry-level device.

The budget MacBook is expected to launch in March with an iPhone-grade chip like the A18 Pro, a 13-inch display, and 8GB of memory. Apple plans to reduce costs through fewer USB-C ports and a lower-quality display panel, targeting a price between $699 and $750. This strategy positions the device as an accessible entry point to the Mac ecosystem while preserving Apple's signature design and build standards.
