Apple Notes Now Handles Markdown on iOS 26

Apple’s latest iOS 26 update gives the long‑standing Notes app a new twist. The change lets users import and export files written in Markdown, a lightweight markup language favored by writers and developers. By turning plain text into rich formatting, the move makes Notes a practical bridge between simple notes and web publishing for today.

Getting Markdown into Notes is straightforward. Open a Markdown file in the Files app, tap Share, select the Notes icon, then confirm Import. The note opens with its formatting preserved, letting users tweak text while still seeing the underlying Markdown markers. This feature caters to collaborators who need to edit raw code in today effortlessly.

Exporting works the same way. From a Note, tap Share, choose Export as Markdown, and pick a destination like Files or iMessage. The exported file retains all Markdown syntax, making it ready for blogs, wikis, or version‑control systems. However, Notes lacks a preview pane, so users must rely on external apps to see rendered output.

While the feature streamlines content migration, power users may miss advanced Markdown constructs and a live preview. Apple’s focus on basic syntax keeps the Notes experience lightweight, but it also limits flexibility for technical writers. Future iOS releases might add richer support, yet for now, the update positions Notes as a simple, cross‑platform markdown tool.
