Apple Music Algorithm Needs a Fix for Better Recommendations

Apple Music users face a frustrating issue: a single song can ruin their recommendation algorithm. Without robust manual controls, exploring new music or letting kids choose tunes can backfire, skewing playlists for weeks. This is particularly problematic for those who rely on personalized stations and the popular New Music Mix.

Currently, the only solution is to manually disable listening history. However, this places the onus on the user, requiring constant vigilance. Users want an easier way to prevent certain songs, albums, or genres from influencing their recommendations. They desire more control than simply toggling an on/off switch.

Ideally, Apple Music should implement a system allowing users to easily mark content as irrelevant for recommendations. A simple "do not track" button, for songs, albums, and artists, would greatly improve user experience. Until then, users must rely on workarounds like Focus Modes and per-device permissions which is not ideal.

While Apple Music offers high-quality audio and curated playlists, the algorithm's lack of granular control remains a significant pain point. Competitors like Spotify offer more advanced controls. The lack of a simple way to exclude unwanted content hinders the overall experience, especially for those with multiple users or children.
