Apple Music may finally catch up to competitors with AI playlist features in iOS 27. While YouTube Music, Spotify Premium, and Amazon Music already offer text-based AI playlist creation, Apple remains one of the few major services without this capability. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported Apple was working on an AI-focused Apple Music reboot.

YouTube Music recently rolled out its AI playlist generator for premium subscribers, allowing users to input any genre, artist, or mood. Spotify's "Prompted Playlist" feature goes further, analyzing listening history and current trends to create personalized suggestions. Apple currently only offers the AutoMix feature and AI-generated "For You" playlists without user prompts.

In the meantime, Apple Music users can generate playlists through ChatGPT, though the integration requires manual addition of songs and lacks access to listening history. A native AI playlist feature in Apple Music would provide the seamless experience competitors now offer, potentially making Apple's service more competitive in the crowded music streaming market.
