Apple Adds Built‑In Equalizer to AirPods in iOS 27

Apple now lets AirPods users tweak bass, mids, and highs directly from Settings, a feature first hinted at during the 2026 WWDC. The update applies to AirPods Max 2, AirPods Pro 3, and AirPods 4, and ships with iOS 27 and the latest firmware.

The change follows months of criticism that AirPods lacked a hardware‑level equalizer. Users previously adjusted audio only within individual apps, such as Apple Music’s preset sliders. Now, the new Equalizer stays with the headphones across devices, simplifying personalization.

Setting the EQ is straightforward. Open Settings, tap the AirPods icon, select Audio and Routing, then Equalizer. Choosing “Custom” lets users slide three dots for Low, Mid, and High, and a waveform preview shows real‑time adjustments. The default profile remains “Recommended,” but those craving extra bass or softer mids can now fine‑tune.

Apple also highlights other personalization options—Personalized Spatial Audio and Adaptive Volume—within the same pane, reinforcing the company’s push toward more integrated headset control. The feature delivers immediate, tangible audio control for everyday users.
