Apple released AirPods public beta firmware 9.0.314 (build 9A314b) alongside iOS 27 beta, bringing the long-requested custom EQ feature to supported models including AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, and AirPods Max 2. Users can opt in via Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods > "AirPods Beta Updates." Betas install when AirPods are in their charging case near a paired iPhone.

The new custom EQ provides three-band control over lows, mids, and highs, accessible under "Audio and Routing" in AirPods settings. A real-time preview plays Apple Music tracks while adjusting. Apple notes AirPods are engineered to faithfully represent audio, but users can now customize the sound profile. The feature works on all models with the H2 chip.

Other iOS 27 AirPods features include a redesigned Settings interface with separate menus for Hearing Health, Find My, and Live Translation; an Adaptive Audio slider; Gym Kit support on iPhone for AirPods Pro 3; Precision Finding on Apple Watch; and Siri AI integration.
