Apple's iOS 27 brings several notable AirPods enhancements beyond the initial announcements. The most requested feature, Custom EQ, finally arrives allowing users to adjust low, mid, and high frequencies through Settings > AirPods > Audio & Routing > Equalizer. This works across AirPods Pro 3, Pro 2, Max 2, and AirPods 4.

GymKit expands in iOS 27 to support iPhone pairing with cardio equipment using AirPods Pro 3's built-in heart rate sensor. Users can tap their iPhone to treadmills, ellipticals, or bikes to sync workout data seamlessly. The treadmill receives heart rate information while the Fitness app captures distance, pace, incline, and calorie metrics that phones alone cannot detect.

Siri AI represents the biggest upgrade for most users, transforming AirPods into AI wearables with conversational abilities, world knowledge access, and personal context awareness. The assistant can now handle open-ended questions and reference online information for detailed responses.

Apple also redesigned the AirPods settings interface with better organization and colorful icons. Precision Finding now works via Apple Watch for AirPods Pro 3, leveraging the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip in the case. AirPods Pro 3 pricing drops to $169 from $249.
