Xiaomi's Redmi Note 15 Pro+ repeats software mistakes

Xiaomi's Redmi Note 15 Pro+ launches with Android 15 despite Android 16's June 2025 release, repeating the same software shortcomings that plagued last year's model. The device ships with outdated software even though Google accelerated Android 16's stable release specifically to give manufacturers time to prepare their devices.

This decision undermines Xiaomi's promise of four Android OS updates, as one will be consumed just to bring the phone to Android 16 instead of starting there. The company claims it's refocusing on value in markets like India, but the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ delivers neither cutting-edge software nor compelling hardware advantages over competitors like the OnePlus Nord 5, which costs slightly less while offering superior performance.

The hardware offers some bright spots including a 6,500mAh battery, IP69/IP68 protection, and an attractive vegan leather design. However, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset underperforms compared to rivals, UFS 2.2 storage feels dated, and the camera system lacks versatility without a telephoto lens. At £349 in the U.K. and ₹37,999 in India, the device fails to justify its premium positioning when it can't deliver the latest software experience.
