Samsung’s Color E‑Paper hints at future Galaxy e‑reader

At Mobile World Congress 2026 Samsung showcased its latest E‑paper lineup, the EMDX series, aimed at business signage rather than consumers. The 32‑inch panel packs a 2,560 × 1,440 resolution and retails for $1,350, while a 13‑inch version offers 1,200 × 1,600 pixels at $725. Both screens are described as ultra‑light, ultra‑thin and driven by a proprietary color imaging algorithm in display use today.

Color E‑Ink has only recently entered mainstream devices, with the PocketBook Color debuting in 2020 followed by Onyx Boox tablets and Kindle variants. Today the market includes Android tablets, smart frames and even niche smartphones, showing manufacturers are experimenting with form factors. Samsung’s claim that its panels mimic printed paper suggests a potential leap toward a consumer‑focused Galaxy e‑reader device.

Pricing puts the 13‑inch EMDX at roughly half the cost of the larger model, yet it remains a premium business tool rather than a mass‑market gadget. If Samsung repurposes the technology for a handheld reader, it could challenge Amazon and Kobo by offering richer colors without sacrificing battery life. The hardware foundation is already demonstrated at MWC for consumers today.
