Google is expanding its laptop strategy beyond Chromebooks with the new Googlebook platform, partnering with Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek to give manufacturers flexibility in processor choices. Qualcomm confirmed it's bringing its Arm-based PC silicon to Google's next-generation laptops after years of being primarily tethered to Windows devices.

The Googlebook platform targets premium laptops from major manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo with deep AI integration, tighter Android connectivity, and desktop-class performance. Expected to support more advanced Android applications, the new system includes features like Magic Pointer for contextual actions and AI-generated widgets.

While traditional Chromebooks occupied the budget and education space, Googlebooks appears positioned as a premium alternative with an estimated starting price of around $1,000. The platform represents Google's shift from traditional operating systems to an "intelligence system" where AI is central to the entire laptop experience rather than just an optional assistant.
