Google Maps Android Auto EV Battery Predictions Roll Out

Google is rolling out battery predictions in Google Maps for Android Auto, helping EV drivers plan stress-free trips. The feature, launching March 30, uses AI to estimate energy consumption and suggest charging stations along routes for over 350 EV models across 15 brands in the U.S.

Drivers simply input their starting battery percentage and destination, and Maps provides real-time route details including charging stop names, estimated charge times, and projected battery levels after stops. This builds on Google's 2024 CES announcement that integrated EV battery data with Maps, now enhanced with AI capabilities.

The update aims to eliminate range anxiety by making trip planning effortless. Google Maps continues expanding EV-focused features, following last year's partnership with Rivian for accurate range estimates and charging scores. A support page helps users check if their vehicle is compatible with the new battery prediction feature.
