Ford Adds EV Battery Preconditioning to Apple Maps

Apple Maps EV Routing is gaining a significant enhancement with battery preconditioning support for the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The feature helps optimize battery temperature before arrival at charging stations, potentially improving charging speed especially in colder conditions. Ford confirms this capability will be available on the 2026 model year Mustang Mach-E when using Apple Maps in CarPlay.

Currently, Mustang Mach-E drivers using Apple Maps EV Routing can plan routes with necessary charging stops, but lacked the ability to precondition their batteries. This limitation made charging less efficient compared to using Ford's Connected Navigation or Google Maps. The new functionality activates automatically when planning a route that includes a DC fast charging stop.

Owners of older Mach-E models won't immediately benefit from this update, as Ford hasn't committed to bringing the feature to previous model years. The company also hasn't indicated whether the battery preconditioning capability will extend to other Ford EVs like the F-150 Lightning, which also supports Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay.
