Google Health drops classic Fitbit app features

Google is retiring the classic Fitbit app in favor of a new Google Health platform, a shift that coincides with the launch of the Fitbit Air wearable. The transition strips away long‑standing features such as Sleep Profile, animal‑based summaries, and the community feed. Users of the Sense and Versa 3 will also lose snore detection.

Google Health will keep core health metrics but replaces daily goals with flexible weekly cardio targets, a move many reviewers say mirrors real‑world workout patterns. The app still displays SpO₂ readings, yet discards the Estimated Oxygen Variation metric and minute‑by‑minute skin‑temperature data, offering only daily and weekly trends instead.

Stress scores disappear, giving way to a new Resilience rating categorized as Optimal, Balanced or Low. Badges are gone, replaced by a health coach that flags milestones, while social interactions—direct messages, groups, and the community feed—will be phased out starting May 12, 2026. Profiles will now pull the user’s Google account name and avatar.

Long‑time Fitbit users will need to adjust to a slimmer, more data‑driven experience that leans on AI queries and weekly targets rather than gamified daily nudges. The trade‑off strips away much of the app’s social charm, leaving a utilitarian health dashboard that aligns with Google’s broader push to integrate wellness into its ecosystem.
