Google is rolling out an audio summaries feature for Google Docs powered by Gemini. The new option will appear in the "Tools" menu, letting users listen to document overviews rather than reading lengthy content. These summaries aim to stay brief while helping users quickly catch up on document contents.

The feature includes a media player allowing users to pause, play, and adjust playback speed. Users can also select different speaking styles like narrator, persuader, or coach. This rollout began this week and will take approximately 15 days to complete. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers plus select business tiers will gain access.

Gemini previously added AI assistance to Docs through summaries and question answering. The audio feature follows that trend of streamlining document consumption. While the tool promises convenience, users should remain aware that AI can make mistakes and verify important information after listening.
