Volvo Commits to CarPlay Support Amid Industry Shifts

Volvo will "absolutely" keep offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across its lineup, including electric vehicles, says Anders Bell, the company’s chief engineering and technology officer. The commitment comes as other automakers like GM are dropping CarPlay in favor of proprietary systems.

Bell emphasized that integrating with users’ existing digital ecosystems is central to Volvo’s approach. He noted that poor infotainment systems of the past made CarPlay necessary. Volvo aims to provide a best-in-class native experience while still supporting popular smartphone integrations.

Volvo was initially listed as a partner for CarPlay Ultra, though it reportedly stepped back from that plan. The automaker recently launched the EX60 SUV, which features a native Apple Music app with Spatial Audio support. Ford and other manufacturers continue to back CarPlay, signaling ongoing consumer demand for seamless smartphone integration.
