Singapore Blocks xAI Document Requests in Apple-OpenAI Antitrust Suit

Singapore has denied xAI's requests for documents from local companies including Gojek, Grab, and WeChat as part of Elon Musk's ongoing lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI. The rejection centers on the company's antitrust claims that the tech giants colluded to unfairly advantage ChatGPT in the App Store while blocking X from becoming a super app.

According to Singapore's Attorney General's Chambers, the requests violated the Hague Evidence Convention because they were overly broad and lacked specificity about which entities should be examined. Singapore joins South Korea in rejecting similar document requests, with both jurisdictions characterizing xAI's efforts as fishing expeditions rather than targeted discovery.

The dispute stems from xAI's argument that Apple's App Store rules unfairly restrict competition from potential super apps. While Singapore blocked these four requests, xAI still has pending document orders targeting companies across China, Indonesia, Japan, India, and Vietnam. The legal battle continues as Musk seeks evidence to support his claims of anticompetitive behavior in mobile app distribution.

This ruling represents another setback for xAI's international discovery strategy, suggesting courts may view the requests as attempts to gather excessive evidence rather than specific proof needed for the antitrust case.
