Korea Blocks Musk's App Store Lawsuit Document Request

South Korea has rejected Elon Musk’s attempt to obtain documents from Kakao as part of xAI’s antitrust lawsuit against Apple. Musk’s legal team sought broad data from Asian super app firms, claiming Apple restricts competition through its App Store policies.

The lawsuit stems from Musk’s complaints that Apple’s partnership with OpenAI harmed Grok’s performance. xAI argues Apple’s rules prevent super apps—which combine multiple services in one platform—from competing fairly, especially in Western markets where such models are less common.

Korean officials cited the Hague Convention in refusing the request, calling it too broad. They signaled xAI could resubmit a more specific list of required documents. Similar requests to other Asian firms remain pending. Legal experts say the case may test international cooperation in U.S.-led tech disputes.

Musk’s push reflects a broader ambition to turn X into a global super app. However, courts appear cautious about allowing sweeping discovery in cross-border litigation without tighter focus.
