Shortcuts Playground: Natural Language Tool for Apple Shortcuts

Federico Viticci at MacStories has released Shortcuts Playground, a plugin that bridges natural language processing with Apple's automation ecosystem. The tool works with Claude Code and Codex to translate plain English requests into functional shortcuts that appear directly in Finder.

Users can prompt the system with requests like creating a 'funny Hello World shortcut' or building automation that 'sends my 5 most recent screenshots via iMessage.' The plugin handles the technical complexity, delivering validated and signed shortcuts ready for import. What once required knowledge of scripting and app APIs now works through conversational prompts.

Shortcuts Playground launches as free and open source software, with documentation available on GitHub. Club MacStories members gain access to an additional generative shortcut that creates and installs shortcuts remotely on iPhones and iPads. This represents a significant shift toward democratizing iOS automation for everyday users.

The tool arrives as Apple continues expanding Shortcuts capabilities across macOS and iOS. By removing technical barriers, Viticci's creation could accelerate adoption of automation among mainstream users who previously found the platform intimidating.
