Apple’s long wait for a folding iPhone has been attributed to the visible crease and fragility of early flexible displays. Display partner Samsung finally resolved these issues in a way that satisfies the company, and the launch of the Korean firm’s latest folding phone offers a glimpse of what the iPhone Ultra display will look like. The first generation Samsung Galaxy Fold had a vulnerable crease that forced a pull‑back; Apple has since waited six years before introducing its own foldable model to ensure the technology matures.

The panel slated for the iPhone Ultra is expected to be almost identical to the one seen in the recently unveiled Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, though Apple’s version may still be refined. A prototype of the new screen was briefly shown in January, then quickly removed from public view, likely because it was meant for an Apple device. Andrew Romero praised the reduced dip that once looked like a canyon; the new panel shows only a faint deviation down the center of the 8‑inch internal display, even under harsh lighting.

The iPhone Ultra is slated to debut with the iPhone 18 Pro in September, featuring a 5.3‑inch outer display and a 7.6‑inch inner screen.
