Apple is reportedly preparing significant updates for its Wallet app in iOS 27, adding two features that could reshape how iPhone users manage physical cards and shared expenses. The update will allow users to digitize passes that lack native Wallet support, addressing a long-standing gap in the platform's functionality.

The "Create a Pass" feature lets users photograph physical cards and convert them to digital passes using templates for standard cards, memberships, and events. Each template offers customizable styling with different color schemes - orange for standard, blue for memberships, and green for events. Users can edit images, names, and other details to distinguish their created passes.

Bill splitting arrives as the second major addition, enabling users to photograph receipts and assign line items to different people. The feature automatically calculates taxes and tips, then generates payment requests through Apple Cash. This integration positions Wallet as a more comprehensive financial tool rather than just a payment card repository.

These additions address real friction points for users who still carry physical cards or struggle with group payments. The pass creation feature alone could eliminate dozens of physical cards from wallets, while bill splitting streamlines what has traditionally been a manual process involving separate calculations and payment apps.
