Google Maps is rolling out a redesigned gradient icon on Android and iOS that modernizes the classic pin shape. The new design features a thinner top ring and larger inner circle, replacing the previous diagonal partitions with a smooth four-color gradient. Google says the update maintains recognizability while offering a more contemporary look.

This visual refresh arrives alongside version 26.09.06.873668274 for Android and version 26.09.05 for iOS. The timing coincides with Google's broader push to integrate Gemini AI across its services. Recent months have seen the addition of conversational navigation that replaces Google Assistant, traffic reporting capabilities, and Gemini-powered features in Google Lens and Maps listings.

The gradient icon redesign follows similar updates to Photos, Home, Gemini, and Search apps. Google Maps has also gained new features like walking and cycling navigation with Gemini, richer visual search results, and Power Saving mode for Pixel devices. The company continues expanding AI capabilities while refining the visual identity across its ecosystem.
