Google Confirms Gemini Will Power New Siri in 2026

Google confirmed at its Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas that Gemini will power a new, more personalized version of Siri arriving later this year. Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian called it a "monumental partnership" with "one of the most iconic brands," saying the company is collaborating with Apple as their preferred cloud provider to develop Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini technology.

The announcement doesn't break new ground—Apple already committed to a 2026 launch for the revamped Siri. Apple initially delayed the smarter assistant in March 2025, then confirmed to CNBC in February that the new version is still coming this year. Rumors suggest Apple was targeting spring 2026 but ran into accuracy issues, forcing internal schedule adjustments. The company has until December 31, 2026 to deliver the update.

It's still unclear whether the Gemini-powered Siri will use Apple's Private Cloud Compute or run directly on Google's servers. Apple has asked Google to investigate setting up servers in Google data centers to handle the anticipated surge in cloud usage. We'll likely get our first look at the new assistant in iOS 27, which Apple plans to introduce at WWDC starting June 8, 2026.
