Day One adds seamless Apple Journal import

Day One has added a built‑in import utility that lets users pull content straight from Apple Journal. The new feature lives in the Settings → Import / Export section on iOS and iPadOS, and under File → Import on macOS. By pointing the file picker at an Apple Journal export, Day One parses the data and appends it to existing entries, and preserves original timestamps during the process.

Apple Journal, the free note‑taking app baked into iOS 17 and macOS 14, offers a private, lock‑screen‑secured space for daily reflections, but it lacks the tagging, timeline and cross‑device syncing that power‑users expect. Day One, a premium journal platform, already supports a broad suite of import and export formats, so the added Apple Journal pathway eliminates the need to manually recreate entries after a migration, including custom tags.

To move records, iPhone and iPad users open Day One’s Settings, tap "Import from Apple Journal", and select the exported file. Mac users choose File → Import → Apple Journal, triggering the same picker. The workflow mirrors Day One’s existing migration tools, promising a smoother switch for anyone craving richer metadata, photo attachments and cloud‑backed backups without losing prior entries and keeps folder hierarchy intact.
