How the Mac Made Journal App My Daily Mental Dump

Apple's macOS 26 Tahoe brought the Journal app to Mac, transforming how I clear mental clutter throughout the day. After years of inconsistent journaling with Day One and handwritten notes on iPad, having Journal on my Mac created a perfect workflow. I'm already typing on my Mac all day, so adding quick brain dumps became effortless.

Before this, my journaling was limited to intentional iPad sessions with Apple Pencil Pro. The iPad's nano-texture display made handwritten journaling appealing, but being restricted to one device killed the habit. iPhone-only Journal features like photo suggestions and workout data still make it the most robust version, but the Mac app's simplicity won me over. I occasionally use the iPhone app to add rich media, which syncs across devices.

Since July 2025, I've logged over 86,000 words across 166 days using Journal on Mac. The app serves as both reflection tool and rapid thought capture, secured behind Touch ID or Face ID. While cross-device sync occasionally lags, the convenience of having my primary writing device double as my journaling platform has made the habit stick. The Mac version lacks some iPhone features, but its integration into my daily workflow makes it indispensable.
