Apple has sent a fresh wave of notifications to users in 110 countries suspected of being targeted by "a mercenary spyware attack," according to Tech Crunch. The latest round brings the total number of countries where Apple has issued such warnings over the past few years to more than 150.

A little over a year ago, Apple alerted users in 100 countries that their iPhones had been targeted. The company also confirmed it had warned more than a dozen Iranian cyberattack victims ahead of the war with Israel.

Apple published a new support article titled "About Apple threat notifications and protecting against mercenary spyware" explaining what the notifications are, how they are delivered, and steps users should take if they receive one. The company recommends enabling Lockdown Mode and seeking expert help, such as the Digital Security Helpline provided by nonprofit Access Now.

Apple also advises all users to update devices to the latest software, use strong passcodes and two-factor authentication, install apps only from the App Store, and avoid clicking unknown links or attachments.
