Apple to replace Siri with iOS 27 chatbot

Apple is developing a major Siri overhaul for iOS 27 that will replace the existing assistant with a full chatbot experience. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the project—code-named Campos—will be deeply embedded across iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems, marking Apple's first true generative AI product.

This shift positions Apple directly against OpenAI and Google in the AI race. Unlike previous Siri updates, the new version will support both text and voice interactions, search the web, create content, and analyze files using personal data. It will integrate with core apps like Mail, Photos, and Xcode for system-wide voice commands.

The overhaul is expected to be unveiled at WWDC in June and ship with iOS 27 and macOS 27 in September. An interim Siri upgrade this spring will use Google's Gemini models but retain the current interface, making the fall release a more significant departure from Apple's traditional assistant approach.
