iOS 27: Apple's New Siri App Rivals ChatGPT

Apple is reportedly developing a standalone Siri app for iOS 27 that will bring conversational AI directly to the iPhone Home Screen. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the app will feature a chat-based interface similar to ChatGPT, complete with chat bubbles and a text entry field. Users will be able to switch between text and voice interactions with a simple toggle.

The Siri app will support photo and file uploads, allowing users to ask questions about their content. A conversation history view will display previous chats in either list or grid format, with the ability to pin favorite conversations. The app will sync across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 through iCloud, maintaining continuity between devices.

Apple's AI overhaul leverages a Google Gemini-based foundation, enabling Siri to understand personal context and interact with other apps like Messages, Calendar, and Mail. The assistant will offer suggested prompts based on prior usage and can save chat data directly to Apple Notes. This move positions Apple to compete directly with third-party AI apps that currently dominate App Store charts, potentially making the Siri app an instant hit when iOS 27 launches later this year.
