Apple's Siri chatbot arrives in iOS 27 as beta, may need waitlist

Apple is set to roll out a full‑chatbot version of Siri in iOS 27, turning the assistant into a conversational AI comparable to Claude or ChatGPT. The new Siri will sit at the system level and also appear as a dedicated app for back‑and‑forth dialogue. Integration aims to make the assistant feel native across iPhone, iPad and Mac, and voice commands as well.

Gurman notes that chats will sync via iCloud, preserving history across devices, while users can set auto‑deletion windows of 30 days, a year, or keep everything. Settings will mirror the layout of Messages, offering familiar controls. Internally, Apple still tags the overhaul as a beta, echoing the original Siri’s two‑year beta period after its 2011 launch. This gives developers clearer data handling expectations.

Because the feature remains labeled beta, Apple may launch a waitlist that restricts access to certain capabilities when iOS 27 ships in September, mirroring the rollout of Apple Intelligence two years ago. The approach could frustrate users expecting a polished assistant, but it also gives Apple time to fine‑tune the service before broad release. Early adopters will likely receive priority access.
