Apple Settles $250M Siri Delay Class-Action Lawsuit

Apple agreed to a $250 million settlement over delayed Siri AI features, offering up to $95 per device to affected users. The payout, averaging $25 per eligible device, covers iPhone 15/16 models purchased between June 2024 and March 2025. Settlement terms were disclosed after a December agreement resolved claims that Apple misled consumers about Siri’s “transformative AI capabilities.”

The lawsuit alleged Apple “saturated airwaves” promoting features like Genmoji and Live Translation that weren’t available at iPhone launches. Court documents stated these promises created “clear and reasonable consumer expectations” that weren’t met. Apple denied wrongdoing, asserting it “acted in good faith” while developing privacy-focused AI tools.

Under the settlement, users must submit proof of purchase—serial numbers, Apple IDs, or phone numbers—by April 2025. Final payments depend on claim volume: higher participation could reduce individual payouts below the $25 baseline. The $250 million fund also covers legal fees, leaving roughly $225 million for consumer compensation.

Apple Intelligence, the delayed feature suite, now integrates across iOS devices with tools like Visual Intelligence and Writing Tools. The company emphasized its commitment to innovation while closing this legal chapter. Legal analysts note this settlement highlights growing scrutiny over tech firms’ AI marketing practices.
