Anthropic has agreed to pay Google approximately $200 billion over the next five years for cloud computing resources and AI chips, according to The Information. The deal grants the creator of Claude access to Google's cloud servers and specialized hardware, following an earlier agreement announced earlier this month. This represents one of the largest AI infrastructure commitments in the industry's history.

The deal is part of a broader pattern where cloud providers are securing massive revenue commitments from AI startups. Contracts with Anthropic and OpenAI have created a revenue backlog of $2 trillion across Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle. These cloud providers were early investors in the AI boom, betting that startups would need enormous computational resources as they scaled.

However, the model faces sustainability questions. Data centers strain limited resources, and RAM shortages continue pushing up prices for related hardware. Previous projections estimated server costs could reach $45 billion for OpenAI and $20 billion for Anthropic by 2026, highlighting the escalating expenses driving this market.
