Apple rolls out new App Store age ratings in Australia and Vietnam

Apple told developers its App Store will adopt new age‑rating rules in Australia and Vietnam starting June 18, 2026. The shift follows recent regulations aimed at shielding minors from unsuitable content, particularly on platforms and games. Developers must revise their App Store Connect questionnaires so the correct rating appears on regional product pages, or risk removal from the store.

Vietnam’s update aligns with Article 38 of Decree 147, forcing apps to carry one of four locally required ratings—00+, 12+, 16+ or 18+—based on the developer’s questionnaire answers. The new labels will be visible on the Vietnamese storefront, and Apple will provide detailed rating values in App Store Connect on the effective date. These ratings will help parents enforce age‑appropriate limits through Apple’s built‑in controls.

In Australia, the 15+ classification disappears; any app flagged for unrestricted web access, frequent medical information, or loot boxes moves to a 16+ rating. Apple warned developers the revised rating will sit on the app’s Australian product page, so accurate questionnaire responses are mandatory. Retailers and advertisers will also need to adjust their targeting to match the higher threshold.
