Apple has released iOS 26.5 beta 1 to developers and public beta testers, with the update expected to launch to all users in early May. RCS encryption has returned to the Messages app in iOS 26.5 beta 1 after being tested but not shipped in iOS 26.4. The end-to-end encryption feature is enabled by default and can be managed through Settings > Messages > RCS Messaging. Additionally, iOS 26.5 will enable new purchase options in the App Store, including monthly billing with a 12-month commitment, a common model on other app store platforms.

For European Union users, iOS 26.5 introduces Live Activities support for third-party accessories and continues development of notification support and proximity pairing. The update also makes it easier to pair Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse to iPhone via USB-C. With iOS 27 development underway for WWDC in June, iOS 26.5 represents a relatively small update focused on refining existing features rather than introducing major changes.
