Apple seeded the fourth betas of iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 for registered developers this week, a full seven days after the third releases. Developers access the builds via the Settings app under General → Software Update. The move keeps the public preview cycle tight while the company refines new features.

New maps functionality lands in the beta, adding a Suggested Places pane that surfaces nearby spots based on trend data and recent searches. Apple also signs up a framework for advertising within the Maps app, hinting at monetization plans that could alter how users discover local businesses for next quarter rollout in Europe and North America.

Apple continues to probe end‑to‑end encryption for RCS messages between iPhones and Android devices. The feature appeared in the previous iOS 26.4 beta, was pulled from the public release, and reintroduced in 26.5 for further testing. The company signals a gradual rollout plan before a full public launch in the upcoming September release and in the following months.

In the EU, Apple tests proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities for third‑party wearables such as earbuds and smartwatches. These features aim to match the Apple Watch and AirPods experience, potentially expanding the ecosystem for external hardware makers. The beta cycle shows Apple’s focus on cross‑platform integration ahead of the next update in 2026.
