Apple invests $10.5 M in Indian green energy and plastic reduction

Apple is putting $10.5 million into a two‑pronged environmental push in India, targeting both renewable power and plastic waste. The investment will fund more than 150 megawatts of new clean‑energy capacity—enough to light roughly 150,000 average households—while a partnership with WWF‑India expands recovery‑focused recycling across additional regions.

The effort builds on Apple’s 2026 Environmental Progress Report and its pledge to hit carbon‑neutral status by 2030. Extending a prior tie‑up with Indian renewable supplier CleanMax, the program also backs Acumen’s Energy for Livelihoods Accelerator, which supplies low‑cost storage for small farmers and funds electric refrigerated trucks, creating EV driver jobs for women.

Beyond energy, Apple’s green agenda includes support for six emerging clean‑tech enterprises through catalytic grants and mentorship, echoing earlier work protecting coastal mangroves and improving water systems. With a quarter of global iPhone output now assembled in India, the initiative strengthens the company’s supply chain diversification while delivering tangible environmental benefits for local communities.

Sarah Chandler, Apple’s VP of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, emphasized that the Indian program blends sustainability with economic opportunity. By channeling capital into renewable farms and circular‑economy projects, Apple aims to lower its own carbon footprint while fostering green entrepreneurship, a model the company hopes to replicate in other emerging markets.
