Apple releases iOS 27, keeping every iPhone from last year but trimming its ecosystem. The update retains all iPhones while dropping a dozen Macs, iPads, Apple Watches and Apple TVs that could not keep up with newer hardware demands. Users with older gear face forced upgrades or workarounds in the macOS environment today and customers will.

Key Mac models cut include the MacBook Pro (13‑inch, 2020) with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, the 16‑inch 2019 model, the iMac 2020 and the 2019 Mac Pro. iPad drops span the 12.9‑inch 3rd‑gen Pro, the 11‑inch 1st‑gen Pro, the 8th‑gen iPad, iPad mini 5 and iPad Air 3. WatchOS 27 drops the Apple Watch Ultra, Series 8, Series 7, Series 6 and SE 2nd gen for older users and service providers.

Apple Watch and Apple TV support shrinks too: the first‑generation Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD fall out, leaving only newer models. iOS 27 and HomePod 27 keep the full lineup from last year, giving iPhone owners a clear choice—stay or update. Consumers will evaluate the cost of new hardware versus lost functionality for daily operations and productivity.

These cuts underline Apple’s shift toward high‑performance hardware, pushing older devices out of the software loop. The list forces buyers to weigh the value of new components against the loss of familiar features. Ultimately, the move signals that staying on older models may become increasingly impractical for every tech consumer today.
