Apple's AirPods Max 2 can finally join the firmware beta program with today's iOS 27 and macOS 27 beta 2 releases. When the first betas launched last month, these premium headphones couldn't access beta firmware despite Apple promising support would arrive in beta 2. That commitment is now fulfilled.

Users can enroll through device settings. On Macs, go to System Settings > Bluetooth, select your AirPods, then toggle on 'AirPods Beta Updates.' iPhone and iPad users follow a similar path through Settings > Bluetooth. Once enabled, firmware automatically installs when AirPods sit in their charging case near the paired device.

This beta access extends beyond the AirPods Max 2. Apple also offers firmware betas for AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, standard AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 3, and both AirPods Pro 2 variants with USB-C and Lightning MagSafe charging cases. The program lets early adopters test upcoming features before public release.

For users invested in Apple's ecosystem, this beta access provides early insight into potential improvements and bug fixes. It also helps Apple identify issues across its premium audio lineup before wider deployment.
