A gunman wearing a sweatshirt that read 'Property of Allah' and an Iranian flag emblem killed two people and wounded 14 others in Austin, Texas early Sunday. The shooter, identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, was shot dead by police after opening fire outside a popular bar on Sixth Street. Diagne, originally from Senegal, had become a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2006.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the gunman drove past the bar multiple times before firing a pistol from his SUV window at patrons on the patio. He then exited with a rifle and continued shooting at pedestrians before officers confronted him within one minute of the first emergency call. The FBI is investigating the shooting as a potential act of terrorism due to indicators found on the suspect and in his vehicle.

The entertainment district, located near the University of Texas campus, has experienced multiple shootings in recent years. University President Jim Davis confirmed that some victims were members of the Longhorn community. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson praised the rapid police response, stating officers 'definitely saved lives' by stopping the attack quickly.
