Three people died and at least 14 others were injured in a mass shooting on West Sixth Street in downtown Austin early Sunday morning. The suspect, described as a man, was killed by police after firing at patrons outside Buford's Bar and pedestrians nearby. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect drove around the area multiple times before opening fire with a handgun from a vehicle window.

Federal agencies including the FBI and ATF responded to the scene, with the FBI's joint terrorism task force investigating potential terrorism links. The bureau stated there were "indicators" of terrorism related to the shooting. Two weapons were recovered - a pistol and a rifle. Medics transported 14 victims to hospitals, with three in critical condition as of the last report. The shooting occurred near the site of a 2021 mass shooting on East Sixth Street.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson praised the rapid response of public safety officials, noting their quick action likely saved lives. The FBI's involvement suggests authorities are treating this incident with heightened scrutiny given the terrorism angle. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to identify the suspect and determine the full scope of the attack's motivations.
