A turkey butcher has been convicted of murdering her girlfriend and cutting her body in half before burying her in a garden. Anna Podedworna, 40, killed Izabela Zablocka, 30, in 2010 after the couple moved to the UK from Poland. The court heard Podedworna trussed the body "like a chicken" with electrical tape before burying it in bin bags.

Zablocka's family reported her missing in August 2010 after losing contact. Prosecutors said Podedworna cracked under mounting pressure and emailed police in 2025 when a Polish TV journalist interviewed her. Police discovered the remains under concrete hardstanding in the garden of their shared home in Princes Street, Normanton, Derby. Podedworna worked as a skilled butcher at Cranberry Foods in Scropton, Derbyshire, where her job involved skinning and deboning turkey carcasses.

The jury convicted Podedworna of murder, preventing a lawful burial, and perverting the course of justice. She claimed self-defence, testifying that Zablocka attacked her and she believed her partner would kill her. Instead of calling emergency services when she could not find a pulse, Podedworna decided to dismember and bury the body. The Crown Prosecution Service noted the case caused 15 years of uncertainty for Zablocka's family, who were denied the chance to grieve and lay her to rest.
