The death of Henry Nowak, an 18-year-old student who was handcuffed by police while dying from stab wounds, has triggered a major investigation in Britain. Nowak was murdered by Vickrum Digwa in Southampton in December 2025. Body camera footage shows Nowak telling officers he couldn't breathe before they realized he was severely injured.

Digwa, who carried a religious knife, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 21 years. The case has become increasingly politicized, with right-wing populist Nigel Farage claiming police response showed 'anti-white prejudice.' The Home Secretary condemned those seeking political profit from the tragedy.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the officers' actions, including the handcuffing and first aid provided. One officer involved has resigned. Nowak's family expressed outrage at how police treated him but emphasized they don't want his death to create further division in the community.
