Honda plans to cease U.S. sales of its sole electric vehicle, the Prologue SUV, by the end of 2024. This decision marks a significant shift in the automaker's electrification strategy, as Honda pivots towards a stronger focus on hybrid vehicles.

The Prologue, which was developed in partnership with General Motors and launched in 2024, has struggled to gain traction in the competitive U.S. EV market. Sales figures have been modest, prompting Honda to re-evaluate its approach.

Instead of doubling down on battery-electric vehicles in the immediate future, Honda will concentrate on expanding its range of hybrid models. This strategy aims to meet consumer demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles while the company continues to develop its next generation of dedicated EVs, which are expected to arrive in the latter half of the decade. The company has indicated that future EVs will be built on its own dedicated platforms, distinguishing them from the GM-based Prologue.

Honda's U.S. sales chief, Robert Collins, confirmed the wind-down of Prologue sales, emphasizing the company's commitment to offering a diverse range of electrified options. The automaker aims to have a significant portion of its sales be electrified by 2030, with a long-term goal of 100% BEV and FCEV sales by 2040.
