Amazon announced a major expansion of its Prime Air drone delivery service, planning to roll it out to nearly 500 cities and towns by year‑end. The service will launch in metro areas such as Chicago, Atlanta, Cleveland, Syracuse, N.Y., and Boise, Idaho, adding to its current 11 metro markets.

Prime Air offers delivery in as little as 30 minutes, covering groceries, electronics, medications, and household goods. Amazon’s e‑commerce giant currently operates in 11 metro areas, including Phoenix, Detroit, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio, and plans to broaden reach across the U.S.

Other players—Walmart, Alphabet’s Wing, and delivery app Door Dash—have begun aerial deliveries over the past years, viewing the approach as a quick and convenient way for shoppers to receive online orders. Walmart strings to launch drone service at 150 additional stores.

However, the rollout remains sporadic, facing regulatory obstacles, safety and privacy concerns, and limitations in inclement weather. Drone operators must navigate complex rules and public scrutiny as they push toward nationwide coverage.
