Mark Mobius, the pioneer of emerging markets investing who died aged 89, transformed global finance through his focus on developing economies. During his 30-year career at Franklin Templeton, he launched one of the industry's first emerging markets funds and built the Templeton Emerging Markets investment Trust from $100mn to a $40bn powerhouse.

Mobius gained recognition for his extensive travels to overlooked economies, where he conducted firsthand research to find undervalued companies. Known for his plain speaking and distinctive appearance, he famously called Donald Trump "as dumb as a fox" in a 2018 FT interview. After leaving Franklin Templeton in 2018, he surprised the industry by founding Mobius Capital Partners.

The legendary investor's legacy extends beyond impressive fund growth. His firm's flagship investment trust has grown to £110mn assets and delivered a 78% increase in net asset value since 2018. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson honored him as "the father of emerging markets," acknowledging Mobius changed how investors see opportunities worldwide through his bold approach.
