Lloyd's Cancels Diversity Event Amid Workplace Concerns

Lloyd's of London will end its flagship diversity event Dive In after hosting a final session in September. The centuries-old insurance market plans to replace the festival with a new program focused on "culture, skills and talent." The decision comes as the market attempts to address its reputation and broaden its talent pipeline amid ongoing workplace challenges.

The cancellation follows years of allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior within Lloyd's and the wider London insurance sector. A 2019 survey found 8% of respondents had experienced or witnessed sexual harassment, with over a fifth reporting that colleagues ignored inappropriate conduct. Former CEO John Neal introduced policies to curb such behavior but faced criticism for overreach and saw his AIG appointment cancelled over similar concerns.

Dive In has attracted more than 274,000 attendees since 2015. With London's insurance workforce aging and average employee age projected to reach 46 by 2034, Lloyd's now faces the challenge of maintaining diversity efforts without its signature event. The market intends to build on Dive In's legacy through mentoring, networks, and early-career support programs.
