Switzerland's dense rail network is being used for solar power. Sun-Ways started a test project in Buttes in April, placing solar panels between tracks. The project could power 30% of the country's public transport energy needs.

France's SNCF and South Korea are now exploring similar designs, which also reduce weed growth and maintenance costs.
